I Hope Things Work Out ....

Today's blog entry is a wish I have been thinking about for the last couple days now. I have the chance to go see Inara George the lead singer of The Bird And The Bee with a certain someone in November at the Getty. The show is completely free and she is playing with Van Dyke Parks a really famous composer. I told you already how much The Bird And The Bee means to me and her, so I am so nervous for some reason. I am waiting with anticipation so badly for Oct 20th to roll around so I can get tickets because they go fast. I think sharing this concert with her would be such a great experience, seeing how this singer is her favorite all time singer and there really our songs. I just recently found out Inara had a solo project and was so amazed on how good it was, surely she has an amazing voice, but the songs are really beautiful and similar to how I have been feeling lately. Anyway I hope this all works out because it would mean a lot to me, and I feel like we deserve this time together. <3

The Party Monster

Andrew W. K. is a great man, I can't say enough about this guy. Simply because he creates all of his own songs and writes them and they all sound the same ! His first album Get Wet came out in 2001, it wasn't until my friend Tony convinced me that his music was good I gave him a listen too. I mean seriously how can't you love music that is all about partying or killing people ? So I image this music was very popular in college, but who am I to judge. He is also a self help and motivational speaker, I would so go to one of his conferences. He also wrote his own book, basically he can do anything he puts his mind too. I really like his attitude toward life and some day I hope to acquire some of his traits . So get out there and party hard .

The Song That Makes Me Remember The Things I Forgot ....

The truth is I know nothing about the band that I am sharing today. I bet you could see this one coming a mile away huh? Anyway This song is near and dear to me because she used to sing it to me in the car in Washington all the time. Did I ever tell you she has a voice like an angel,? I am just letting you know she is my favorite singer by far. Every time I hear her voice it's like my heart begins to melt and i get all warm and nervous inside. The band I am sharing today is called Hot Club Of Cow town, strange name right ? Any who this song called " Forget Me Nots." This song reminds me of endless days with my true love, when she was in a good mood she would sing this to me, I remember the first time I heard it she told me the story that went along with it. Her mother and her drove from Traverse City Michigan all the way to Anacortes Washington. She sang the song all the way to Anacortes I guess. I would have loved to be there in the car with her, she and I are great car buddies, I really miss that about us. Maybe one of these days I'll show up and bring her some Tabbouleh and sweep her off her feet and take her on a road trip with me . Enjoy this lovely song !

Strange Name....

So I really like this band, but I really hate their new stuff so ill make this kinda brief. Coheed And Cambria is a New York band I guess that started way back in 1995. Claudio Sanchez the lead singer of this operation has the most interesting vocal range. He makes singing high notes for tenors look easy. So after In Keeping Secrets Of The Silent Earth:3 i lost interest in these guys, they were like every other band in my opinion. I never was a die hard fan for these guys but i thought what they were doing at the time was really cool, they also map each album out to be a story. There albums can also be found in comics,so you can see they got too big for their britches. And to top it all off Claudio kicked out the original members of the band so they basically suck now. Anyway if you like high vocals and singing along with catchy tunes, check these guys out !

All Is Full Of Love

Today's blog entry comes from Iceland, Her unique voice can be heard all over the word. Bjork is an angel in my eyes. I don't know her personally but I imagine that is what angels sound like. I have been a big fan of hers since I was very young, I have watched her come into her own over the years. I always appreciate the way she does what she wants electronically and lyrically, she isn't afraid to think outside of the box which is really cool. I have always wanted to see her live, I heard it is a most beautiful experience. Death Cab For Cutie's Front man Ben Gibbard, like to cover her songs and really does it well. Bjork also makes me think of my love. Her lyrics make you think of how important it is to have someone special in your life. I connect on so many different levels with her songs. All Is Full Of Love has to be my favorite song and music video by far, it really makes me look at myself and where I'd love to be someday with YOU. Hopefully you got that, anyway enjoy this amazing video and song . I truly believe this concept, that all is full of love you just need to know where to find it!

The King Of Mash-UP

Greg Gillis or as many of us know him as Girl Talk. This man has made me dance more times then I'd like to say, on top of that I know the words to some pretty stupid rap songs know. All in good play I have learned to appreciate all types of music and Greg showed me that is very possible. I had a chance to go see him in concert once and it was seriously off the chain. He invited all of the audience up on stage with him to dance the night away. I was so sweaty by the end of the night I could hardly stand it. I found myself dancing with complete strangers and bumping and grinding without inhibition. I first heard Girl Talk back in high school, he was an idol of mine for along time actually, I found it very interesting that he was almost sued for his  use of other people music. I believe he is only allowed to use somewhere around 6 to 5 seconds of another artist song if he plans on selling his album. I find this completely fucked in my opinion, because the music he is making is completely different and of his own  style. More power to him and his work in creative commons and mastering the art of mash-up.... kudos. I know a girl who likes to sing Girl Talk, and her friend actually recorded her singing one of his songs without her knowledge, just thought that was kinda funny. Wish I could have been there for that !

Concert Edtion ( The Revolution )

Last night I had the privilege to go see one of my favorite bands The Chariot, let me begin by telling you these guys are fucking crazy. I have never in my life ever seen a more chaotic stage presence in my whole life. I have seen these guys once before when they open up for Poison The Well back in the day, they were crazy that night and even crazier tonight. There was these rafters above the stage that went around the whole room and the guitarist Stephan Harris went up there and began to play his guitar, the lead singer Josh Scogin did the same crawling on the amps and speakers. He started the concert by saying ," This stage is your stage, these songs are your songs, if you know the words sing along, if you don't make up your own." Classic ! I have always loved Josh's vocals from Norma Jean, and The Chariot has their own sound and great fighting style. Between the endless stage jumpers and screaming vocals, I caught the bassist guitar and sang back up vocals with some kids in the crowd. I had one of the best night I have ever had, I think these guys are my favorite band to see live. My friend Bryant and I had a chance to meet the two guitarist and the drummer, very humble people and we learned they will be coming back in November ! You can bet I'll be there front row again !

Going Solo At Work !

Colin Hay is a Scottish Australian Singer and Song writer, he was most famous for being the lead singer in the band Men At Work. The song I have chose today is a very emotional song for me, I first heard it on the Garden State soundtrack, which if you haven't heard you should check it out, one of the best soundtracks  I have heard in a long time. This song really explains the way I feel today, She has been running through my head all day and I can't seem to shake it, let me make that clear.... I don't want to shake it. When someone like her makes you feel as if the world stops on it's axis when we kiss, why would you ever want to stop that beautiful feeling. I first heard Men At Work at my first job, my former boss was a big fan and played their first cd for years on rotation, so it's safe to say i never have to hear I come from a land down under ever again. But this song really describes the way I have been feeling lately, It's safe to say she is that special somebody out there that was made for me, every crack and crevice fits perfectly. I believe that true love does exist and she is my soul mate, I can't explain it , I just know she is the right one for me. <3

Twice In One Day...Must Be A Sign !

Yesterday I took up to Santa Monica to go visit a friend, ended up having one of the best times this year. She has always held a special place in my heart and always will for that matter. I love this girl with all my heart and she invokes a special spark in my life, I couldn't tell you what I would do with out her in my life. You know those certain people who make you want to strive to be better in life, they allow you to see the bigger picture in the end. She is one of those people to me, I am so grateful she is in my life today, I would do anything for her. Anyway enough talk about that, this is suppose to be a blog about music, so I heard this song yesterday for the first time called "Little Lion Man," by a band called Mumford And Sons. I do not know anything about this band, just that I really love this song and the lyrics. I was sitting in her living room yesterday when it came on Pandora and she began singing the lyrics, which I have always adored the way she sings to me. I was surprised because it takes a lot for me to like a song, I am the biggest music snob you have ever met. Besides the point I just really enjoyed the song, and on the way back home in the car I heard the same song on the radio, I found my self in traffic blaring my stereo and singing along I must have really looked like a fool at the point.

You Still Hurt Me...

I just got done going over an extensive list I just made which deals with what I would like in a woman. Upon doing so I found my self listening to a folk singer that I haven't listen too in a long time due to the fact it was a singer/songwriter I shared with a special someone a couple years ago. I was listening to William Fitzsimmons a genius when it comes to writing really sad love songs, I am not kidding you this guy will make you cry at the end of one of his songs I promise you this. I first heard of him after Kelly and I broke up, and all I could do for the longest time was listen to him and salk over this empty feeling I had in my chest. I clung to his words and poured my heart out while listening to his sad sad lyrics. I eventually sent Kelly the cd and we both had a couple of moments together with his music. William is from Illinois and released his first cd in 2005. He has a huge beard and shares similar traits to iron and wine, they kinda look alike as well... go figure ! Anyway I was compiling this list and was reminiscing  on all of the stupid things I have done over the years, and became fairly depressed in wishing she could only see me for who I trying to become now. I hurt our love beyond words I just wish we could work it out some how some day! <3 and I am so SORRY for that .............

1 2 3 4 Got Me Started

Today's journal entry will focus on a special lady with a beautiful voice, Leslie Feist or as many of you know her as just plain Feist. She has one of the most unique and extraordinary voices I have ever heard.  She is a Canadian singer/songwriter who was originally in the band Broken Social Scene.  I have been a big fan of both projects, I found I lean more toward Feist, but who really cares. Her vocals and chord progressions just fit so well together it's like something truly beautiful to be heard. I feel in love with her cd The Reminder when I heard a remix done by Chromeo, I actually discovered both bands at the same time so that was a bonus. I would love to some day be able to sit down with Kelly again and listen to this album. For now ill just put it on repeat for a week or two. Enjoy who ever is listening out there.

The Days Go On....

This band Pixies, are one of those bands that keeps on getting better with age. Even though they aren't writing new music they are still performing their old ones. They aren't even that old, all four of them formed the band back in 1986 in Boston. They were way before their time if you ask me. There is this great chemistry between Frank Black the lead singer and Kim Deal the bassist. I got a chance to seem them on there reunion tour a couple years ago, I nearly lost my shit. I went with my brother tradd, and we had so much fun singing along and dancing that night. Tradd was the one who actually turned me on to the Pixies back when I was just a kid. I remember so clearly the first time I heard them, Tradd was shaving and teaching me how to shave, even though I didn't have a beard at all, and then a song came on from Surfer Rosa my favorite cd by far. They cd never gets old in my book, I used to have in playing my car for months. These guys surely are special to me !

Long Name, But Great Song

Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros.... So here's the thing, I know absolutely nothing about this band, so I am going to give you some info from wikipedia. So the lead singer is named Alex Ebert, form the band Ima Robot? anyway they are a fairly new band, their first release was in 2009 and album called "Up From Below." So why am I writing about them? Because yesterday I was in the car and heard this song called "Home," on the radio and simply loved it. The lyrics are pretty intense and meaningful. The whole reason I am mentioning it is because it reminded me of Kelly a lot. There is a line that says "home is where where ever I am with you." This really got me to thinking, I miss her dearly and I am sure that it's the last thing anyone wants to hear but bare with me it's my blog! I feel at home when I am with her, in her arms that I miss so dearly everyday. We lived together for a short period of time, and I really took her for granted and I get to live with that everyday. So if you like folky songs with mushy lyrics grab your girl and listen up !

Would You Like Some Wine ?

Iron and Wine or recording artist Samuel Bean. This American song writer is someone who i can always connect with lyrically. He has released four studio albums and seven ep's thus far. I fell in love with I&W back in junior high, I never heard a more beautiful male voice in my entire life. Every time I hear him sing I feel shivers down the back of my spine and I still get goose bumps on my arms. His ep Woman King is by far one of my favorite albums known to day. His record label Sub Pop is one of my favorite labels as well, some great artist were on there like the postal service and I believe Death Cab For Cutie for awhile if I am not mistaken. I like when I can share music with people and let them enjoy the finer things in life, it's nice that my father actually enjoyed this when I played it for him the other day. In my last relationship I found my self examining the lyrics and trends I found in his songs, I felt so connected to the song,"Woman King" because it reminded me of Kelly and how woman should really be treated. The song I am leaving you with is my all time favorite song by Sam, i know there are lots but this song has always been my favorite. It was the first CD i ever picked up of his , off the CD The Sea And The Rhythm here is the title track !

The Twin Inside Me

Aphex Twin or Richard David James the master mind of it all. This man is one of the greatest, i have always loved his work. It is so fierce and beautiful at the same time. He can rip open your ear drums with tracks like "Come To Daddy,"  or sooth you with tracks like "Flim." I believe he was the one who coined the term IDM or Intellectual Dance Music, this type of music is filled with little bleeps, peeps and glitches, one of my favorite types of music. He started making music as far back as 12, but he really started with success in 1992. James uses a series of different instruments such as synths , drum machines , samplers , sequencers, and software. I really like the way he organizes his songs, they seem to come out just perfect.

Sometimes It's Good To Have STD's

Saves The Day is a rock group from New Jersey that was formed back in 1994. I saw them before I even knew who they were back in junior high. I was at a Blink 182 concert, I know don't laugh.  But I remembered that they put on a great show. It was until Stay What You Are came out that I really began listening to them. I fell in love with band right off the bat. Chris Conely the lead singer/guitarist, his  lyrics are so heart felt and genuine I can't begin to tell you how much i relate to him. Sometimes he steals the words right out of my mouth. Saves The Day, has always been a day I go to when I am down. When ever I am having trouble with my life I can always count on STD to brighten my day. All of their albums are fantastic, I really relate to Stay What You Are, it is definitively part of my teenage youth. I remember Anthony and I playing At your Funeral when we were younger. So anyway enjoy this tune and pick up Stay What You Are if you get a chance, you will love it !

The Robots Are Taking Over....

Free The Robots, aka Chris Alfro. This guy is a very talented individual, I first heard of him when I was at a concert for The Glitch Mob, which we will be talking about on a later day. I was at this concert with Kelly, and we were so excited, it was a great concert at the Catalyst. So Free The Robots opened for them, and he was so interesting to watch. He had a Akai Mpc, and he was beat juggling on the fly, he didn't stop until the concert was over. It takes so much skill, to do something like that as well as he did. I ended picking up some merch , I picked up a shirt and a CD of his. His music style is crossed between hip-hop and jazz electronica, and hip-hop to me has to be really good for me to like it. anyway i thought I would pass on this artist, he deserves a lot more recognition that he gets !

You've Got The Bite !

Tony Fathom, Aka Dj Skull Vomit, Eustachian,Singaya, Dr. Stutters and many more i can't remember right now. This guy is so great everything he touches in my opinion turns into gold. I love they way he incorporates various forms of music, whether it is metal,grindcore,dubstep,mash-up,trance or just noise. I first heard of Tony from the band Eustachian,John Roche and Tony comprise the band, I fell in love right away. I actually still own there first record on vinyl, Broken Teef which was a split with Vytear . That album owns, So brutal in every form. If you get a chance check out his youtube site, it's some funny shit http://www.youtube.com/user/TonyFathme. I really love this guys music and if you like unique music i suggest you check him out, you will be very surprised.
